May 19th thru 20th, Picacho SRA was devastated by what would be later known as the Island Fire. Thankfully, the main campsite was spared. Most structural damage being suffered at the boat-in camps upriver. Thanks to a generous donation by long-time Picacho supporter and author, Tom Davis, Friends4Picacho was able to organize a workday with Park staff to replace and repair 2 ramadas at 4S Beach Camp.
Due to the logistics of getting people and materials upriver, we opted to go with a small but mighty crew. They did not disappoint. Everyone pitched in, and the work was done in a few hours.
We want to give a huge shout out to Tom Davis, who funded the project and lent a hand. Thanks Tom! Thanks also goes out to the Johnson family, who took time out from their weekend to git 'er done. Your one morning of work will be enjoyed by Picacho visitors for years to come.
We also would like to thank the Park Staff and Camp Hosts, Joe and Margaret, who spend time in advance of the workday to get everything organized. Well done everyone!
